Whenever I saw Betty she was always so nicely dressed and enjoyed adding one of her many necklaces to compliment her outfit. She took pride in appearance and loved clothes. When I used to visit her at Ashdene Gardens, she would always welcome me in, she was so kind and thoughtful and traditional in the sense of taking my coat and hanging it on a coat hanger in the hall cupboard. She used to make me frothy coffee with hot milk and when I used to visit before going to my ceramics classes, she would always have prepared a plate of dainty sandwiches, with cherry tomatoes & grapes between the sandwiches. She would tell me stories of her beloved Simon, who she was obviously incredibly proud of and of Ruth and her wonderful grandchildren Jacob and Adam. She loved the outings they took her on, particularly to see Paddington at the cinema when the boys were young and to the Christmas productions at Warwick Arts Centre. Not forgetting afternoon tea at various country house hotels and National Trust properties. She talked of her life in Sheperton and Abbeywood and had obviously enjoyed seeing Frank Finlay regularly as he lived in the locality. Happy walks in Windsor Great Park. We talked of W her early life in WimbledonPark, her riding her Claud Butler bicycle and her jobs in various offices and as I seem to remember in a Health Visitors Clinic. She often told me of happy times with Alan too. One of my overriding memories of Betty was seeing her in Kenilworth in her late 80,'s with her friend Dulcie who also lived at Ashdene . At the time Dulcie was over 100 and Betty was helping her out of her car as she was still driving at that time. I will always remember happy times with Betty who was such a sweet, kind and gentle person, and a lovely friend to me! Eva xxxx
